UM Summer Institute & Kermit and Kathleen Schwanke Institute

There are presently no open calls for applications.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UMSummer Institute and the Kermit and Kathleen Schwanke Institute have been canceled for the 2020 summer season to ensure the health and safety of our participants and staff. This was a difficult decision and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment this announcement has caused.

We hope to offer a Summer Institute next summer and we look forward to offering the Schwanke Honors Institute next summer. We will update both programs websites when more information is available.

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at if you have any questions about the UMSummer Institute or to Davidson Honors College, Director of Student Engagement, Bethany Applegate ( if you have any questions about the Schwanke Honors Institute.

We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you on campus next summer!

In the meantime, if you are a Montana high school student between the ages of 16-19, please remember that just because you can't join us for the one of the Summer Institutes doesn't mean that your UM learning has to stop. UM offers other dual enrollment courses for Montana high school students in the summer. The Dual Enrollment program enables Montana high school students (between the ages of 16 – 19) of outstanding ability to earn college credit by taking remote or online classes at UM and Missoula College. Registration for the dual enrollment program depends on the availability and prerequisite requirements. For more information on the program and/or to register, please visit dual enrollment website

And for those Schwanke applicants who plan to join the UM family this fall, please consider UM’s Summer Start program! You can find more information about the program on the UM website:
